Our Journey
From Humble Beginnings to Industry Leader
Camsons began as a one-truck operation by Chris Sultana in the early 1950s. Over the decades, this family-run business has expanded, embracing modern transportation techniques while maintaining the core values of trust, dedication, and personalised service that have made us successful.
Chris’ lifelong passion for vehicles began in his youth. Growing up in Gozo, Malta, he developed a deep interest in cars, trucks, and engines. He began working with his father at a young age, driving, conducting, and interacting with customers on the family bus. At 17, he took a job delivering fuel and oil, where he learned the value of hard work and the importance of providing for his family.
Chris immigrated to Australia in 1949, working odd jobs until he could purchase his first truck78. He quickly recognized the need for reliable bulk transport services in Australia’s booming post-war construction industry and began carting cement around Sydney and country NSW.
In the early years, Chris partnered with several other Gozitan immigrants, including Mary’s brother, Frank Mintoff. The partners expanded their fleet, transporting cement, coal, and fruit across the state.
In 1964, Chris and Mary purchased a 5-acre property in Prospect, where they built a successful poultry farm alongside their growing transport business.
In 1979, they renamed the company “Camsons” as a tribute to the family: Chris And Mary Sultana and their sons. Over the next few decades, Chris and Mary encouraged their six children to join the family business. Their sons, Joe and Frank, took on increasing responsibility, and their daughters, Marianne, helped with administration and bookkeeping.
Camsons continued to expand, buying out several competitors and acquiring the lease to a sand quarry at Calga. In 1998, they opened their current purpose-built facility in Minchinbury.
